The Whole Leprechaun Thing

Welcome, everyone. So this is officially my first blog entry, and I feel like I should explain my blog title. I wracked my brain for possibilities, many much more literary and eloquent and involving no references to leprechauns.

But a while back, my eight-year-old stepdaughter went through a phase where she was hugely interested in leprechauns and believed they could disguise themselves as any object, animal, or person. They are master chameleons, these guys. A can of Diet Coke, a tree, a poodle—all potential leprechauns. My husband would point to things randomly and say, “What about this? Could this be a leprechaun?” Finally she got tired of the game and said, “Daaaaaad, anything can be a leprechaun.”

I like that idea enormously. It creates a serious sense of anticipation as you’re going through your day. We’d all be much more observant, much more engaged and excited by the world around us, if our Diet Cokes could jump out of our hands and grow beards and little green hats at any moment.

If you’re reading this, you might be wondering what I’m working on now. Happily, I’m getting close to finishing up my next novel, and by “finishing,” I mean the editing part. The words part. No cover or anything yet, but I hope within the next month or two, the actual rewriting/re-editing/rereading will be done and the finished manuscript will in the publishers’ hands at Riverhead. It’s called Ghosts Underground, and it’s part mystery, part love story, and part ghost story. More about it in the next entries

I’m mad nobody left you any comments. I just wanted to let you know I love you. By the way, I am your step daughter.

I’m leaving a comment now, I guess I missed the “immediate comment” boat. I also love you, and by the way, I’m your sister in law. I think Hungry Man and Hamburger could definitely find a home up here.
